The Yello Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of new work by eminent artist Patrick O’Reilly, which opens in Connaught House, Mespil Rd, Dublin 4 on 13th May and runs until 3rd June.

Patrick O’Reilly’s work is more well known than most people in Ireland imagine. His giant bronze bears stand outside the O2 Centre as well as at the bottom of Grafton Street. However, this is his first major solo show in Ireland for more than a decade. The title of the exhibition relates to a verse in Louis Mac Niece’s poem, ‘Snow’ which describes the intense effect that natural elements have on the author.

Patrick O’Reilly has a similar relationship to the world he inhabits. This new body of work has all the playful and inventive qualities of the bronzes that may be familiar but with three different series of works that are bound together by a single purpose. In each case he has used the underpinning material to compose the image. So that canvas is wrapped, stretched and painted to flow like brushstrokes, a polycarbonate is treated, coloured and moulded to resemble pointilism and blocks in both bronze and canvas are polished and varnished with reference to the early work of Krasner or Motherwell perhaps.

Patrick O’Reilly was born in 1957 in Kilkenny, a small town in Ireland. At the age of 17, and largely self taught, he then decided to pursue his own his artistic route as he had been doing since childhood, by drawing and making objects. The first exhibition of his work took place in 1996 at the Galway Arts Festival. Since then, his extraordinary work has been shaking up the world of fine Art. He has exhibited throughout Ireland, England and Europe with major solo exhibitions in Dublin, Belfast, Berlin, London, Paris, Athens, Vienna, Brussels, Montreal, Marseilles and China. Works are on permanent display at the Hugh Lane Gallery,Dublin, AIB, Bank of Ireland and other important public and private collections in Ireland, Europe and America.

A limited edition catalogue with a unique painting will also be available for sale.
